2024 K.I.S.S
2024 Kitsap Invitational Summer Scrimmage
The Kitsap Rowing Association, Bainbridge Island Rowing, and Clam Island Rowing are pleased to co-host the 2 nd
KISS, with an event that is focused on fun, and getting to know each of our neighboring West Salish Sea clubs.
Below is some important information about the 2024 KISS:
● This is a masters only event
● The following clubs are invited to participate: Kitsap Rowing, Bainbridge Island Rowing, Clam Island Rowing, Vashon Island, Rat Island, Tuf’ as Nails, Sequim Bay, and Port Angeles masters.
● All experience levels (from novice to very experienced) are encouraged to participate! Each club can
bring as many Masters rowers as they wish!
All registrations MUST be completed by Thursday July 18. No exceptions: we need time to put participants into
races, crews, etc. Registration is via an online form; here’s the link:
https://forms.gle/k5YrPyyYJu7oCkVJA
● Current USRA Number is required- if not available, the individual will need to sign USRA Release of Liability form at day of event when signing in.
● Cost is a suggested donation of $50 per rower, which includes costs of event, food and shirt, payable at the registration table on the day of the event.
● Events will include 4+s and 8+s., and 1x to 2x, 4x, depending on interest.
● The events will be “ham and egg” style, with crews from all clubs and all skill levels mixed together in pre-assigned crews. However, if there are crews that prefer to row together, please indicate that on theregistration form. If we have enough interest in this type of event, we will do our best to accommodate it.
● Each rower is guaranteed at least one race; depending on time, number of registrations, and interest, some rowers may get to row two races.
● We ask that if there is no ferry involved that clubs provide their own rowing shells and associated equipment. BIR and KRA will provide 8+ shells and oars for the mixed event. We will not be able to provide sculls.
● Visiting clubs will be unloading and rigging at the beach between Liberty Bay Marina and Oyster Plant Park, and the adjoining beach north of the park.
● Parking is available on 6th Street and 9th Street (see map). Parking is limited so carpooling is strongly advised. The parking spaces in front of the Oyster Plant Park will be reserved for loading and unloading only. Please do not park in the Liberty Bay Marina lot.
● Coach’s and Cox’s meeting and registration table will be at the Oyster Plant Park wharf.
● Please leave your valuables at home, we cannot guarantee their safety. There will be signs and volunteers to assist with directing launching shells safely off the beach.
● KRA Launching will be from their KRA Port of Poulsbo dock.
● Small Boat Crews should plan to arrive at 6:30 am. Opening statements and Safety/Cox/ Launch drivers/Judges meeting will be at Oyster Plant Park at 7:45 a.m. First crews are anticipated to launch at 8:15am, with first race tentatively starting at 9:00 am. For safety reasons the first crews to launch will be the small boats, who should get the best water and the least traffic: Quads, fours, doubles and singles. We hope to have at least 5 eights starting at 10 AM, late enough for those who row in the small boats to hot-seat into an eight. (If this information changes, we will contact all people who have registered with updated information.)
● Crews will warm up by rowing south to the race starting area which is between Virginia and Pearson Points. All crews will be rolling starts. Staging area is south of the start in Virginia Gut. Start is at Pearson Point.
● Races will all be round trip, about 4600 meters. Running north on the west side of Liberty Bay to the northern most buoy across from the Gazebo at Waterfront Park and returning south to the finish line at the starting point at Pearson Point.
● After the races, we will host a lunch at the Oyster Plant Park for all participants. Additional potluck items are welcome from all club rowers as well!
